Introduction

  • The MSIC 2008 Version 1.0 is a classification of all economic activities in Malaysia which adopts the International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) Revision 4 released in December 2006, with the necessary modifications to meet national requirements.
  • The MSIC is intended to be a standard classification of productive economic activities. Its main purpose is to provide a set of activity categories that can be utilized for the collection and presentation of statistics according to such activities.
  • Industries are then formed by grouping units with a common primary activity, according to specified similarity criteria. MSIC can then be used to produce statistics by activity or by industry, for enterprises as well as for establishments or kind of activity units.
  • MSIC aims to present this set of activity categories in such a way that entities can be classified according to the economic activity they carry out.
